Hilti: processing product data and picking orders with Compano Online Software

Hilti is a leading supplier world-wide for the construction industry. The family business operates in 120 countries and employs more than 23,000 people. Hilti designs and produces advanced devices, software and services for the professional construction industry. Featuring their own Hilti stores and the Hilti Online Shop, the company sells its products, software and services directly to the end-user. Danny Borneman (Product Manager E-Business and Online) explains: “We were looking for an easy solution with which our customers could order directly at Hilti Netherlands. We found this solution in Compano’s Online Software. Hilti is a large company and we produce a variety of information in all the company activities. To process all this information we use SAP. While it was possible to communicate information from SAP to our customers, we needed to develop computer routines for every automated connection, which is a time- and money-consuming process.”

One solution for all connections

“Now, thanks to Compano, we have one solution that takes care of all connection methods between all systems.  Our customers experience great benefit from this solution, because they can easily select our items with the help of Art-Select and thus order our products using their own ERP software. Art-Connect translates the orders to a format that our SAP system can read. These automated connections work in such an easy way that -so to speak- we can connect a new customer with only 10 minutes of effort.”

Suitable for ETIM

“We have an extra advantage for our product data. The Compano PIM system makes our data from SAP suitable for the international ETIM standard. World-wide Hilti works with one database, in which we classify all our product data per the German BME-cat standard. That makes this kind of data unsuitable for the Dutch market, for example.”, continues Borneman.

“Now that the PIM software of Compano translates our product data, Hilti is able to deliver international standard data in a much easier way to data pools such as Artikelbeheer.nl and 2ba. The Compano system also offers us a decisive advantage in exporting our data to several classification formats.”

“We also see nice possibilities for Building Information Modelling. Although Hilti is still researching the feasibility of BIM, we are aware of the fact that Compano’s BIM-Select would enable us to process item data directly in digital construction projects.”

The simplicity and the fast implementation of this software solution prevailed at Hilti when we selected Compano. Also the prospected and largely realized gain on customer satisfaction was an important factor in the selection process.

Hilti wants to unburden its customers. The Compano software makes it easy for customers to order their products and services but that is not the only benefit. Now we also work together with the customer for a universal solution for invoices with the help of XML formats. The ordering process will run fully automated, which is a lot more efficient for our customers and for us.
